Hearts haven’t won the Scottish title since 1959/60. Their most recent silverware was the Scottish Cup in 2011/12.

Winners of two league titles in three years at the end of the 1950s and beginning of the 1960s, Hearts have only been crowned champions of Scotland on four occasions. Just two of those have come since the start of the 20th century.

Celtic and Rangers have had a duopoly over the outright Scottish football betting markets for the last few decades.

Hearts have had periods where they have threatened, with three third place finishes in the last decade, but it’s a big step to turn that into a legitimate title challenge.

The Jam Tarts have been relegated – albeit followed by immediate promotion – twice since 2010. No club has been able to maintain performances at the same level as Celtic and Rangers since the 1980s.

The Glaswegian giants have a significant financial advantage over the rest of Scottish football, which has only grown with each year they play in the Champions League.

How Have Hearts Done in Europe?

Hearts have qualified for contintental competition at a decent frequency. That, however, has not been turned into deep runs in European competitions.

Across the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, the Cup Winners’ Cup, UEFA Cup, Europa League, and Conference League, Hearts have only reached the last eight on one occasion.

That came in the UEFA Cup in 1988/89 after defeating St. Patrick’s Athletic, Austria Vienna, and Velež Mostar. They ultimately fell to Bayern Munich in the quarters.

Are Hearts More Successful than Hibernian?

Yes, Hearts have won more silverware than their bitter rivals Hibs. Hearts have 16 trophies to Hibs’ 10, with the same number of league titles and more Scottish Cups.

Hibs have enjoyed some deep cup runs in recent years, but their trophy tally is a long way shy of Hearts.
