Football Predictions Friday

Real Sociedad v Real Madrid

Real Madrid travel to San Sebastian on Friday night to face Real Sociedad in an intriguing La Liga fixture.

Real Sociedad have really picked up form after their Champions League exit to Paris Saint-Germain, La Real are unbeaten in their five games since that fixture and have taken all three points in three of those. That run of form has put Txuri-Urdin into that final Europa League spot, there’s a seven-point gap between themselves and their rivals Athletic Club in fifth, so it’s likely this sixth spot if the best that La Real can hope for. Back-to-back victories for the side below them (Real Betis) has just put a bit of pressure on Real Sociedad heading into this game.

Real Madrid all but sealed the La Liga title after a Jude Bellingham winner in the 91st minute gave Los Blancos maximum points in El Clasico. They are now eleven points clear of Barcelona with just six games to play but given that gap and the fact their Champions League semi-final clash against Bayern Munich is on the horizon, it’ll be interesting to see the line up for this game from Carlo Ancelotti, the Italian might be tempted to rest a few key players.

Real Madrid are already on their way to the La Liga title, La Real will want to end Madrid’s seventeen game unbeaten run as they look to get a real grip of that Europa League spot. Los Blancos have lost just once on the road in the league this season, whilst Real Sociedad have lost just three times in their fifteen home games, I think we’re in for a score draw here.

Football Predictions Saturday

West Ham United v Liverpool

Liverpool will travel to East London on Saturday to take on West Ham United at the London Stadium.

Reports this week suggest that David Moyes won’t be in charge of the Hammers next season as they look to move on, they’re currently eight in the Premier League but European football for West Ham doesn’t look likely, currently five points behind Manchester United having played a game more than the Red Devils. They’ve won just once in their last eight games across all competitions, they’ll be wanting to finish in the top half of the table but better results and performances are required.

Liverpool’s title hopes look like they are over, this was supposed to be a fairytale ending for Jurgen Klopp as he leaves the club at the end of the season, his side still had a chance of winning all four trophies but since his announcement, they’ve crashed out of the FA Cup, Europa League and after their derby defeat to Everton on Wednesday night, the Premier League now also looks like a big ask. One thing this Liverpool side won’t do though is give up, so they’ll be eager to put things right on Saturday against West Ham.

Liverpool have won the last five meetings against West Ham across all competitions, with both teams finding the net in their last three. I think we’ll see the same here, Liverpool have kept just one clean sheet in their last 12 games in all comps, concerning.

RB Leipzig v Borussia Dortmund

The race for top four in the Bundesliga is heating up with just four games to play, Borussia Dortmund travel to the Red Bull Arena on Saturday to face RB Leipzig, just two points separate the two sides.

RB Leipzig head into this fixture occupying fourth place and the final Champions League in the Bundesliga, the Red Bulls are unbeaten in their last eight games across all competitions, they’ve also won three of their last four homes games in the league without conceding a goal. With Stuttgart losing last weekend, there’s a glimmer of hope for Leipzig in terms of finishing third, just four points behind with Stuttgart travelling to league winners Bayer Leverkusen, they could find themselves just one point behind with three games to go.

Borussia Dortmund were left frustrated last weekend, on their way to three vital points in this top four race before Bayer Leverkusen found another late goal to keep their unbeaten record intact and break the hearts of those Dortmund fans. The Prussians are now two points behind Saturday’s opponents but of course, a win would hand them the advantage of securing a Champions League spot for next season, they’ll also have an eye on next week’s UCL semi-final clash with PSG.

Leipzig have the advantage in recent meetings, they’ve won five of the last six between the two sides whilst both teams have found the net in seven of their last nine head-to-head games, I feel we’ll get an entertaining match here with plenty of goals.

Fulham v Crystal Palace

West London meets South London on Saturday afternoon as Fulham take on Crystal Palace in the Premier League.

Fulham have hit a bit of a rough patch as we enter the final games of the season, they’ve won just once in their last five Premier League games which has included teams within the bottom four. There’s still hope for the Cottagers to finish midtable but that’s probably the best they could hope for this season, a win here could see Fulham move up to tenth if results go their way.

Crystal Palace got their first back-to-back wins under Oliver Glasner at the weekend and they followed that up with another brilliant result against Newcastle United on Wednesday night. Those three wins have wiped out any doubts about the Eagles being in a relegation battle, they are now just three points behind Saturday’s opponents Fulham, they’ll be looking to keep their winning form going here.

Both teams have failed to score just once in their last twelve Premier League games, Jean-Philippe Mateta has scored five goals in his last four games, including two back-to-back “braces”, he’ll be looking to go one further here.

Manchester United v Burnley

Burnley make the short trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

After their recent eventful trip to Wembley, where Manchester United booked their place in the FA Cup final after beating Championship side Coventry City on penalties, they came up against a Sheffield United side who are on the brink of relegation on Wednesday night. A game which should have been straight forward for the Red Devils, turned out to be anything but when the Blades found themselves 2-1 up in the second half, United did turn it around to win 4-2 but it just shows the confidence is very low right now within this squad, a real worry for Man United’s faithful.

Burnley gave themselves a fighting chance of survival last weekend with a 4-1 win away to Sheffield United, just three points from safety with four games left to play, it’s unlikely but things could have also been a lot different. The Clarets have lost just once in their last seven Premier League games, the frustration for their fans and Vincent Kompany is that four of those games have ended in a draw, a couple of victories within that period and the table would look a lot different.

Manchester United have won seven of their last ten games against Burnley, the last time the Clarets won at Old Trafford came in 2020 with a 2-0 victory. Again, this should be a game that Man United win at home but you never know what you’re going to get with Erik ten Hag’s side and Burnley will put up a real fight.

Newcastle United v Sheffield United

Sheffield United will travel to Newcastle on Saturday afternoon with the hope of avoiding relegation, for at least another week.

Newcastle were unbeaten in four previous games, winning three of them before their trip to South London on Wednesday evening where they were defeated by Crystal Palace. The loss has dropped the Toon Army down to seventh now behind Manchester United, as the two look to battle it out to secure European football for next season. The Magpies have been fairly solid at St James’ Park in the league and they’ll welcome the Blades with open arms on Saturday, given the reverse fixture ended in an 8-0 victory for Newcastle.

An immediate return to the Championship is looking likely for Sheffield United, a defeat here would actually seal their fate and even a draw might not be good enough to keep the Blades up. Things don’t look very good for Sheffield United though, they’ve only picked up six points on the road this season and have only managed one win, add into the mix the fact they haven’t won at St James’ Park in their last three visits, not even the most optimistic Blades fan can be looking forward to this one.

Sheffield United found themselves leading at Old Trafford twice on Wednesday night but ultimately ended the game with another defeat, I can only see a home win here and I think the question is by how many?

Wolverhampton Wanderers v Luton Town

Molineux is the venue for Wolverhampton Wanderers v Luton Town in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

After looking like they would be putting a challenge in for those European places, Wolves are really fizzing out this season, no win in their last six Premier League outings including their games against Bournemouth on Wednesday evening, manager Gary O’Neil described his side’s performance as their worst of the season, now ten points behind sixth place, a top half finish is the best Wolves can hope for this season.

Luton Town’s survival hopes took a real blow on at the weekend, a 5-1 defeat to Brentford at Kenilworth Road wasn’t ideal for Rob Edwards’ side but a victory here would move the Hatters out of the bottom three with Nottingham Forest playing Manchester City on Sunday. Luton haven’t won on the road in the Premier League since their victory in Sheffield back in December but with so much at stake here, we’ll see how much fight this Luton Town side have.

Luton are yet to keep a clean sheet away from home in league, so if they are to get a win here, it’s likely they’ll have to score at two. Wolves are playing for just pride which isn’t great at this point of the season and could be there for the taking.

Juventus v AC Milan

AC Milan travel to Turin on Saturday evening to face Juventus in Serie A at the Allianz Stadium.

Juventus confirmed their place in the Coppa Italia final on Tuesday night, Lazio lead the game 2-0 with just 7 minutes left to play, the game was heading into extra time before Arkadiusz Milik tapped in from close range to give Juventus the win on aggregate, the Polish striker had only been on the pitch for two minutes. With just five games left to play, the Old Lady haven’t yet secured their place in next season’s Champions League but they are close to doing so, a win here would near enough secure that place.

AC Milan were left embarrassed on Monday evening as bitter rivals Inter secured their twentieth Scudetto (One more than Milan) with a 2-1 victory over the Rossoneri, it’s the first time a Scudetto has been won in a Milan derby. Milan did show some fight eventually, albeit not the kind of fight that would help them get a result, three red cards were brandished in stoppage time, two for Milan. Stefano Pioli isn’t expected to remain in charge next season, after crashing out of Europe against AS Roma, he’s got just five games left to secure Champions League football for the Italian giants.

Milan are now winless in their last four across all competitions, neither side will want to lose this one and I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a stalemate here but I fancy both teams to find the back of the net.

Everton v Brentford

Everton return to Goodison Park on Saturday evening as they take on Brentford in the Premier League.

Goodison Park was absolutely rocking on Wednesday night, Everton secured a massive win against their bitter rivals Liverpool. It was the first Merseyside derby win at home for the Toffees since 2010, not only has the victory all but confirmed Everton’s safety in the Premier League, it also hampered Liverpool’s title ambitions, which now look to be over. The Blues now sit eight points clear of the bottom three with just four games left to play.

Brentford have also put themselves in a great position after their back-to-back victories, the Bees are now ten points clear of the drop zone and a trip to Goodison on Saturday night doesn’t have so much riding on it, which is good news for the side from West London given they’ve lost seven of their last ten games in Merseyside.

There was so much tension at Goodison Park on Wednesday but once the final whistle had gone, you could just feel the relief from the Everton faithful, it should be different this time around given the pressure has been lifted, I think we’ll see another good performance from the Toffees and they’ll take all three points. The Bees have seen both teams hit the back of the net in seven of their last nine league away games, whilst losing five of those.

Lazio v Verona

Verona will travel to the capital city on Saturday night as they come head-to-head with Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico.

Lazio suffered heartbreak on Tuesday night in the Coppa Italia semi-final, after conceding a late consolation goal to Juventus, it was enough to send them out of the cup on aggregate. They can take some confidence from winning the game on the night though, they’ve also put together four wins from their last five Serie A games, resulting in the Eagles moving up to seventh and at the time of writing, are now just three points behind their bitter rivals Roma, albeit having played a game more.

Verona got themselves a vital victory on Saturday, a 1-0 win over fellow strugglers Udinese has moved the Mastini up to fifteenth and now three points clear of the drop, they’ve given themselves a real chance of Serie A survival. Verona will have to improve on their away record though if they are to get a result here, they’ve won just twice on the road in Serie A.

Verona did manage to get themselves on the scoresheet away at Inter, Roma, Napoli and most recently Atalanta, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they do the same here but I think Lazio will get the victory given their recent run of form.

Aston Villa v Chelsea

Aston Villa welcome Chelsea to Villa Park in the evening kick off in the Premier League on Saturday evening.

It’s been a brilliant week for Aston Villa and their fans, having secured their place in the Europa Conference League semi-final with a victory over Lille on penalties, Unai Emery has committed his future to the club after signing a contract until 2027. With the likes of Bayern Munich reportedly interested in the Spanish manager, Aston Villa will be delighted to keep their boss and the future certainly looks bright for the Villans. Villa have played two more games than top four rivals Tottenham but they are six points clear in fourth, we know that the Premier League won’t be receiving the extra Champions League spot for next season, so effectively Villa have got four games left to win to secure their place in the competition.

Nothing sums up Chelsea’s inconsistency this season than the week they’ve just endured, after thumping Everton 6-0 in the league, putting up a real good performance in the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City, they travelled to Arsenal on Tuesday night and got a thumping of their own, a 5-0 defeat to their London rivals has put more questions over manager Mauricio Pochettino and those Chelsea players.

Aston Villa must ensure they don’t lose focus on this game with their upcoming European semi-final next week, Villa have seen three or more goals in 77% of their home games in the league this season, whilst Chelsea have seen 75% of their games on the road produce the same, I expect goals here and another entertaining game.

Paris Saint-Germain v Le Havre

Le Havre travel to Paris on Saturday night to face PSG at the Parc des Princes in Ligue 1.

Paris Saint-Germain are nearly there in terms of winning the title, a win here over Le Havre would see the Parisians crowned Ligue 1 champions for a twelfth time. It could be a really good season for PSG, the Ligue 1 title is usually a formality but the one they all want is the Champions League, they’ve got a trip to Dortmund to come next week in the UCL semi-finals, so the quicker they get this title wrapped up, the better as it’ll give Luis Enrique the option of resting players.

Le Havre have won just once in their last ten Ligue 1 games, resulting in Le Club Doyen dropping into the bottom three with just four games left to play. Within those four games, they’ve got to play three of the top eight sides, which won’t fill them with much confidence. Their record on the road has been frustrating, winning just one away from home but they’ve drawn eight of their fifteen games, more than any other Ligue 1 side on the road.

PSG should get this title wrapped up here, the last time Le Havre beat the Parisians came in 1999, PSG have won their last three games by the same scoreline (4-1), I’ll back the same scoreline here and hopefully they can keep the run going.

Atletico Madrid v Athletic Club

Sunday night provides us with a mouth-watering fixture in La Liga, just three points separate Atletico Madrid and Athletic Club as they come to battle in Madrid.

Atletico Madrid could count themselves a little lucky to still occupy fourth place in La Liga and the final Champions League spot for next season, they’ve lost three of their last five games in the league but luckily for them, their opponents here haven’t managed to win in their last three games, you feel like Atleti might have got away with one here but let’s see what Saturday night produces.

As mentioned, Athletic Club haven’t won in their last three outings, a real frustration for the side from Bilbao given they would have taken full control in this top four race with Atleti’s slip-ups recently. They’re up against it here given Atleti have only lost once in the league at home, winning fourteen of their sixteen games at the Metropolitano Stadium. However, Athletic Club have already won there this season, a 1-0 victory in the Copa del Rey just 2 months ago, they’d love another result like this here.

Atleti have won seven of their last nine meetings between the two in Madrid, four of which also seen both teams on the scoresheet. An away win here would see Athletic Club climb above Atleti into fourth place but their home form is incredible in La Liga and I think that’ll be the difference between the two here.

Football Predictions Sunday

Tottenham Hotspur v Arsenal

A North London derby like no other, not only are Tottenham hoping to keep their top four hopes alive, they’re also looking to put a big dent into their bitter rivals Arsenal’s title challenge, as the two meet on Sunday afternoon.

By the time this fixture comes round, Tottenham wouldn’t have played a game for over two weeks, Ange Postecoglou’s side should be well rested since their 4-0 defeat up at Newcastle, whether that two-week period without a high intensity game will help the players, I suppose we’ll only find out during this game. Spurs are fifth in the Premier League, six points behind Aston Villa in that precious Champions League spot, albeit with two games in hand, so they are still well in this top four race. Tottenham have a good home record in the league, they’ve won twelve of their sixteen games and are the only side in the league yet to draw a game at home.

Arsenal showed why they are fighting for the Premier League title with their performance against Chelsea on Tuesday night, the Gunners stuck five past the Blues without reply, a result which not only put them back on the top but it also extends their goal-difference advantage over the two challengers, it could be pivotal in terms of the title winners in May. The Gunners have the best away record in the league, they’ve won eleven of their seventeen games away from the Emirates, losing just three times.

The North London derby is usually a really entertaining one and I think we’re in for a treat here with this one, given what’s on the line for both sides and the way the two teams play, I think we can expect plenty of goals and plenty of drama.

Bologna v Udinese

Bologna will welcome Udinese to the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara on Sunday afternoon in Serie A.

Bologna really made a statement on Monday evening away at Roma, the Rossoblu defeated Daniele De Rossi’s side 3-1 to put them in a really strong position to claim a Champions League spot for next season. Eight points now separate Bologna from Atalanta in sixth, albeit having played a game more, but a victory here could all but seal their top five place with just five games left to play. Having finished ninth last season under Thiago Motta, his side have really excelled this season and have been Serie A’s surprise package, there’s no doubt about that.

I mentioned a few weeks ago that Udinese needed to be looking over their shoulder and at the time of writing, they now find themselves just outside the bottom three, despite having the same number of points as the team below them, Frosinone. Their survival hopes took a big hit on Saturday after defeat to fellow strugglers Verona, with a 93rd minute goal conceded, they’ll have to end their four-game winless streak if they are to put some breathing space between themselves and the relegation zone.

Bologna have the second best home record in Serie A, they’ve claimed 39 points from a possible 51, they’ve lost just once in their last seventeen home games across all competition, solid form. Udinese having beaten Bologna on the road in their last five attempts, although they did win the reverse fixture 3-0 in December.

Nottingham Forest v Manchester City

Two teams fighting for two different prizes, Premier League safety and the title, as Nottingham Forest welcome current champions Manchester City to the City Ground on Sunday afternoon.

It’s been some week on and off the pitch for Nottingham Forest, having been denied three penalties in their relegation clash against Everton last weekend, the club took to social media to release a statement claiming the VAR official for the game was a Luton Town fan and they have asked for him to be removed prior to the game. I can understand the frustration but it’s not a good look for the club, their Premier League safety is in their hands though as they sit above the drop by a single point, they’ll be looking to use that frustration as motivation for this game.

Manchester City put together another impressive display on Thursday night on the south coast, they thumped Brighton 4-0 and the Premier League title now seems like it’s staying in Manchester for another season. The Cityzens are currently second in the league, trailing Arsenal by a point but it’s definitely in their hands given they’ve got a game in hand over the Gunners.

Nottingham Forest actually got themselves a draw against Man City at the City Ground last season, the game finished 1-1 but City have already beaten the Tricky Trees 2-0 this season, as always, they start to find some real form at this stage of the season, I can’t see anything other than a win for Pep’s side.

Napoli v AS Roma

The Stadio Diego Armando Maradona will host this Serie A fixture on Sunday evening between Napoli and AS Roma.

Napoli’s inconsistency struck again recently, after beating Monza on the road 4-2, they’ve since followed that up with a draw and a defeat against two sides fighting for survival in Frosinone (2-2) and Empoli (1-0). Those results have just halted Napoli in their hopes of playing some sort of European football next season, they are now five points behind Atalanta, who also have a game in hand, so it’s looking likely they best they can hope for is seventh this season and a Europa Conference League place, although they’ll have to catch Lazio above them first.

Roma had recently secured their place in the Europa League semi-final after their victory over fellow Italian side AC Milan. However, they suffered a defeat to Bologna which has left Daniele De Rossi’s side seven points behind fourth but they’ve also invited pressure on themselves from Atalanta, just one-point separates both sides and a Champions League place.

Napoli haven’t been great at home this season, they’ve won just six of their sixteen games, drawn five and lost five, whilst Roma haven’t won in Naples since a 4-2 victory in 2018. I’m expecting a close encounter here and a draw wouldn’t surprise me.

Lyon v Monaco

Lyon and Monaco will come head-to-head on Sunday evening at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais in Ligue 1.

Lyon’s European dreams took a bit of a dent after their 4-1 defeat to PSG on Sunday night but still just five points off the top six, it’s not impossible but time is running out for Les Gones. However, if you had told Lyon they’d have a slight chance of making the top six with four games left to play, they’d have taken that all day after finding themselves bottom of the league after their first fifteen games.

Monaco could secure Champions League group stage football here for the first time since 2019, after their midweek win over top four rivals Lille, they are now ten points clear of Nice in fifth. Monaco are flying away from home as well, they’ve lost just twice on the road and are unbeaten in their last eight Ligue 1 away games, winning all of their last five.

I’m expecting goals here, Lyon have seen 53% of their home games produce at least three goals, whilst 73% of Monaco away games have produced the same, we should be in for a thriller and I think Monaco should get the victory given their recent away form.

Fiorentina v Sassuolo

Fiorentina and Sassuolo lock horns on Sunday evening in Serie A at the Stadio Artemio Franchi in Florence.

Fiorentina suffered heartbreak on Wednesday night after crashing out of the Coppa Italia semi-final at the hands of Atalanta. The Viola must now focus on the league and their European ambitions, currently ninth in Serie A and five points behind Lazio in the final European spot, albeit having played a game less. Of course, there is another route for Fiorentina to secure European football for next season, they welcome Club Brugge to Florence next week in the Europa Conference League semi-final first leg, they’ll be looking to win the competition after falling short in last year’s final against West Ham United.

Sassuolo are in real trouble, Davide Ballardini side haven’t won in their last five games and suffered a worrying loss at the weekend, fellow struggles Leece travelled to Reggio Emilia and put three past the Neroverdi without reply. The Watermelon Peel are now nineteenth in Serie A and two points from safety, having conceded the second most goals in the league, this is worrying times for Sassuolo and with just five games left to play, time is running out.

This game should be full of goals, nine of their last eleven meetings have seen both teams hit the back of the net, including the last four games between the two sides in Florence. Having won just twice on the road in Serie A, I feel like Sassuolo will be in for another frustrating night, with Fiorentina taking all three points, although the Neroverdi will fancy themselves to grab at least one goal.

Marseille v Lens

Lens travel to the Stade Velodrome on Sunday evening to face Marseille in Ligue 1.

Marseille had a chance to put pressure on the top six on Wednesday evening but after finding themselves down to 10 men right before the break against Nice, they were up against it, despite Aubameyang converting a penalty in the second half, they couldn’t see the game out and ended up with their eleventh draw of the season, six of which have been on home soil.

Lens have slipped down to sixth after their recent form, they ended a four-game winless streak last weekend with a 1-0 victory over bottom of the league Clermont. With just five games to go, Lens will be looking to beat Nice to the Europa League place. After finishing second in Ligue 1 last season and experiencing Champions League football, the Blood and Gold might be disappointed with how their season is playing out, especially If they don’t secure some sort of European football.

Lens games on the road don’t tend to produce many goals, just 47% of their games have produced at least three goals whilst only five of their fifteen games away from home have seen both teams on the scoresheet, I think Marseille will get a victory here and keep the pressure on.

Real Betis v Sevilla

The Estadio Benito Villamarin will host the El Gran Derbi between Real Betis and Sevilla on Sunday evening in La Liga.

Real Betis enter this derby off the back of consecutive victories over Valencia and Celta Vigo, those victories have moved Los Verdiblancos up into seventh and into the Europa Conference League places, although given they are now just three points behind Real Sociedad, they’ll have their eyes on challenging them for a Europa Legue spot.

Sevilla have put together three consecutive wins which has given them a comfortable twelve-point gap to the bottom three, with only six games left to play, it looks like Sevilla have secured top-flight football for a twenty-fourth consecutive year. Realistically, the best Los Nervionenses can hope for is a midtable finish in La Liga but they’ll be up for the task of putting a dent in their bitter rivals’ European hopes.

It’s usually a feisty fixture when these two meet as you’d imagine, three of the last six meetings at the Estadio Benito Villamarin have seen the referee produce at least one red card, three were shown in the last fixture here. In terms of goals, Real Betis have seen 56% of their home games produce both teams to score, something that has also occurred in four of their last five competitive head-to-head games, I think we’ll see a home victory here but both teams on the scoresheet.

Football Predictions Monday

FC Barcelona v Valencia

Valencia will travel to Barcelona on Monday evening in round 33 of La Liga.

Barcelona were left feeling very frustrated after their El Clasico defeat to Real Madrid, not only have they possibly lost their slim chance of catching Los Blancos at the top, they felt Lamine Yamal’s shot had crossed the line but VAR suggested otherwise and Barca went on to lose the game 3-2 in the dying embers. The lack of goal-line technology in La Liga is something that must be changed to avoid future situations like this. Notwithstanding that, Barcelona must now end the season as strongly as they can for Xavi Hernandez and their fans.

Valencia slipped up in their last outing after back-to-back victorious, they faced Real Betis with both sides hoping to end the season in the top seven, Betis got the win which resulted in them overtaking Los Ches into seventh, with just six games left to play in La Liga, time is running out. However, only one point separates Valencia from those European places, even a draw here could see the regain that seventh spot.

I think Barcelona will get the victory here, they’ve won twelve of their sixteen home games this season and they’ve dominated this fixture in the last six meetings, winning five of them. Valencia have won just five of their sixteen on the road in La Liga, I just think this will be too much for Los Ches.

Of course, a value football prediction is no guarantee of the bet being a winner, but these are the kind of wagers all punters are after.

The options for good value football predictions increase the closer we get to kick-off. Bookmakers make more markets available a day or two before the match, but you can place result and over/under wagers well in advance.
